LAST years state winner Brittany Liebich, Kalangadoo, has managed to again land a spot in the national young judges competition after competing against four others in her age group.
"I won it last year and went to Sydney this year where it was a very close call," she said.
"I was six points behind first place."
She said this was her third time competing in the young judges competition, after being encouraged by her sister to do it.
"I have shown here since I was a baby," she said.
"Bridget and I have competed against each other for a couple of years now and it kind of goes either way.
"But we have a lot of young up-and -comers now who placed really well and it's comforting to know the competition will continue when we are no longer able to compete."
Ms Liebich said she would keep in practice by judging the animals on her family farm.
Judge Roger Heath, Camperdown, Vic, explained to the young judges it was an important stepping stone in his career as a judge.
"I began in your shoes about 30 years ago," he said.
"I was a young judge once and got really nervous like all these guys would have been.

"I obviously did fairly well in those competitions and yeah, gone on to where I have got to today."
He said Ms Liebich received first place, and was off to Launceston, Vic, because of her ability to sort the cows.
"They were in the order that I placed them in," he said.
"And her ring craft was very, very good, along with her oral presentation.
"Overall, she averaged out pretty well to win the first place spot. But the first three places were very close - they all did a good job."
He said anyone considering doing it needed to enjoy what they did.
"Back yourself and your own judgment all the time", he said.
"That is really important a not everybody's gonna agree with you all the time."
