MALLEETECH achieved both an increase in its top price and average at its Poll Merino ram sale in Geranium on Wednesday last week.
In the sale breakdown, the Smith family sold 32 rams from the 55 offered to a top price of $4600 twice and overall average of $1700 - a $457 increase on the 2021 sale.
The two equal-top price Poll Merino rams were bought by John and Stuart Richardson, Tumby Bay, at Lot 2 and James Moore, Jamestown, at Lot 19.
The Richardson purchase had a 17.4-micron fleece with 21.6 co-efficient of variation and 99.4 per cent comfort factor, weaning rate of 0.28, a Dual Purpose Plus index of 203 - in the top 5pc for the breed - and a fleece weight of 30.3 kilograms.
Mr Moore's 18.5M ram had a fleece with 21CV and 99.3CF, weaning rate of 0.24, 199DP+ (top 5pc), a yearling weight of 17.1 and a yearling fleece weight of 31.7.
Mr Moore said his top ram had strong attributes.
"Just a good stand-up ram really, good in the figures, good in the body and overall very happy with him," he said.

After attending his third consecutive Malleetech ram sale, Mr Moore is planning on returning in the future.
"They're just good easy care-free sheep, he's got all the Australian Sheep Breeding Values there, he's been on them a long time," he said.
"They're just the sort of ram we're looking for, that's why we've gone there and we'll continue to go there."
The Richardsons and Mr Moore were among the volume buyers on the day, each with five rams, while DW Smith also bought five, as did David and John Peter.
Malleetech stud principal David Smith was very pleased with the sale result, highlighting he still had rams available in the top 10pc of Australia for the Dual Purpose Plus Index.
"I think it went pretty well - that was the highest top price we've ever received," he said.
The Helmsman auction was run by Nutrien, with Michael Lawrence the stock agent.
