THE social project, Humans of Kangaroo Island, continues to support local farm firefighters (FFUs) by providing the necessary tools needed for them to fight fires swiftly and safely.
In the latest venture, fundraising local Sabrina Davis, along with Parndana's Cheryl May, have combined to deliver 150 St Johns first aid kits and 150 woollen blankes from Fire & Rescue to FFUs across the Island.
The kits and blankets have become a new recommended requirement for FFU vehicles as per the new 2021 CFS FFU handbook.
The 150 sets have arrived at Cheryl's store, Keilem, in Parndana, and are ready for pickup by any local farm firefighters.
Farmers who can not make it to Keilem in the next two weeks can pick up the kit at the FFU Induction Day which will be held at the Parndana Oval on Sunday, November 28, from 10am until around 1pm.
Run in collaboration with the Country Fire Service, farmers can get their fire units checked by CFS inspectors, register their vehicles and units for the upcoming summer season and enjoy a sausage sizzle by the Western KI Lions.
In November 2020, Humans of Kangaroo Island told the stories of local firefighters and ran a fundraiser alongside it to raise enough funds to re-equip FFUs again after the Black Summer fires with adequate protective clothing and safety equipment.
Over $60,000 were raised by Humans of KI creator Sabrina Davis with the support and donations from local and mainland businesses, organisations, and many individuals around the country.
