LANARK Angus stud reached a top price of $11,000, twice, at its first auction, after the Wandilo-based stud offered nine bulls online this week.
Previously the stud has sold bulls privately during the SA Beef Week Field Days but this year, decided it was time to hold their own sale.
The sale began on Monday, February 14 and concluded on Wednesday last week, finishing with full clearance and a healthy $8444 sale average.
The first bull to make the top price was Lanark Black Magic R10 SV that sold to Craig Wooding, Penola.
Sired by Byergo Black Magic 3348 PV, the March 2020-drop weighed 982 kilograms.
It measured a 43-cenitimetre scrotal circumference, 9-millmetre rump and 8mm rib, with a 133 square cm eye muscle area and 5.9 per cent intra-muscular fat.
The second bull under the hammer at $11,000 was Lanark Black Magic R14 SV that sold to Ernie Scheidl, Glencoe.
That bull was also sired by Byergo Black Magic 3348 and weighed 934kg.
The March 2020-drop bull had a 42.5cm scrotal circumference with 7mm rump and rib, and 131 sqcm EMA with 5.2pc for IMF.
Stud principal Mark Fairlie was pleased with the sale result.
"We wanted to hold the sale to give everyone a fair chance to get their hands on a bull," he said.
"We were pleased a bull sold to a Victorian-based stud too - shows we are on the right track."
The stud has been using Canadian genetics for about a decade to give the stud of a point of differece.
"A lot of studs are on the same page - we wanted to do something a bit different," Mr Fairlie said.
Green Triangle Livestock agent Garth Manser said it was good, strong sale.
"For an inaugural sale it was really solid.
"It was inline with other bull sale because the cattle were very good quality."
The sale was conducted by Green Triangle Livestock, Mount Gambier.
