BOONAROO Angus stud smashed its previous sale records at Casterton, Vic, on Friday, selling bulls to $34,000 twice and achieving a sale average rise of nearly $7000.
Boonaroo stud principals Shane and Jodie Foster were thrilled about the support from clients, who cleared their entire offering of 124 bulls for a $17,161 sale average - the highest average for a Vic Angus bull sale this year so far.
The Fosters sold their bulls via video for the first time this year and the first lot offered set the tone for the day, surpassing last year's sale top price.
Boonaroo Charlie R60 sold for $24,000 to Miller Whan & John, Mount Gambier, for WE&D Humphries.
A son of Lawsons Charlie N131, it ranked in the top 1 per cent of the breed for growth and moderate birth weight.
PJ&JM Coote, Kalangadoo, bought one of the two top price bulls of the day at lot 6 - Boonaroo Katapault R14.
TDC Penola livestock agent Sam Hill said "everything was right" about the "all-rounder" bull.
The July 2020-drop was an AI-bred son of Prime Katapult and had good Breedplan growth figures of 200-day weight +63, 400-day wt +119 and 600-day wt of +154.

Princess Royal Station, Burra, paid the equal top price for lot 104 - Boonaroo Nebraska R347 - in their draft of eight bulls which averaged $23,000.
Nebraska attracted fierce competition for its excellent data with calving ease in the top 14pc of the Angus breed and growth traits ranking in the top 4pc.
Other volume buyers were Carapook Pastoral, Casterton, purchasing five bulls to $21,000, averaging $17,600, while Chris and Lyn Iredell, Pigeon Ponds, Vic, bought five bulls to $15,000, averaging $13,400.
Greenwald Pastoral Co, Dartmoor, Vic, purchased five bulls to $20,000, averaging $16,200; Kevin Upton, Glencairn, Vic, took home five bulls to $14,000, averaging $11,400; while Hamish and Leonie McNicol, Meteranvale, Vic, bought four bulls to $23,000, averaging $19,750.
The sale was conducted by Elders, Nutrien and MWJ.
