STEER prices were charging ahead at the Mount Pleasant market last week as Christmas looms, with steers fetching a $2590 top price.
While lamb prices were back marginally on the fortnight prior.
Nutrien Ag Solutions Fawcett Livestock's David Schultz said many buyers were filling Christmas orders.
"We had great support from mainly meat buyers; Thomas Foods International, Australian Lamb Company, Midfield meat, Australian Meat Direct, and the local butchers; Meat Barn, Mount Pleasant Butcher, Two Brothers, Lobethal, Kangarilla Meats and Bridgewater Meats," he said.
"We had a good rein of buyers all the way through and good quality yarded."
Hearnden Farms, Keyneton, made the top price, $224 for 34 lambs and the vendor offered a further 27 and made $210.
BM Linke, Angaston, offered 14 that made $222 and another pen of 18 were also knocked down at $222.
A pen of 16 lambs offered by AE Tucker, Birdwood, made $210, while IM&RJ Eats, Tooperang, had 17 knocked down at the same money of $210.
DM Anderson, Mount Pleasant, made $204 for a run of 11 lambs, while O&DE Ieso, Para Vista, made $202 for seven.
A pen of 10 lambs offered by G McGregor, Hahndorf, were knocked down at $200.
Ewes reached a top of $194 for a pen of 10 from P Marschall, Gawler, while A Cushion, Mount Pleasant, made $170 for one ewe.
A top price of $160 was made for two wethers from R Della-Torre, Kangarilla, and Olson E M, Geranium, made $152 for 11.
Hoggets reached their peak at $162 for 11 offered by Menglers Hill Vineyard, Angaston, and M Smart, Mount Compass, made $160 for 3.
EJ Argent & ML Johnson, Angaston, made $158 twice for two pens of 10 hoggets and GB&J Gale, Tintinara, offered six at $150.
In the cattle section, steers reached a top of $2590 for a Limousin from Hearnden Farms, Keyneton, and another Limousin from the same vendor made $2420.
Heifers topped at $2020 for two Murray Grey's offered by G&M Wilson, Mount Pleasant and a Murray Grey as well as a Angus-cross made the same money at $2020 both offered by Nadolny Super Fund, Christies Beach.
An Angus cow with calf-at-foot from WR Bellman, Mount Barker, was knocked down at $3390 while another Angus cow with CAF offered by the same vender made $3360.
The next market will be held on January 13.
