NARACOORTE
Yarding: 4805
Weaner steers to $2620
Yearling steers to $2720
Heifers to $2350
IT was another dream day for cattle sellers at the PPHS Weaner and Feeder sale held at the Naracoorte Regional Livestock Exchange on Thursday last week.
Close to 5000 weaner and yearling steers, and heifers, were yarded by PPHS, with the sole agency sale grossing $10.8 million.
Weaner steers weighing in excess of 400 kilograms sold from $5.47/kg to $6.38/kg, with 350kg-400kg steers making $6.02/kg-$6.84/kg.
Those in the 300kg-350kg bracket reached $7.48/kg with the majority making $6.80-$7.20/kg, 250kg-300kg steers made $6.89-$7.78/kg and those under 250kg were knocked down for$7.35-$7.86/kg.
PPHS auctioneer Josh Manser said rates were in line with that of last week's multi-agency weaner sale, with their clients "stoked" with the outcome.
"We're pleased for the vendors that entrusted our company to sell their livestock and were impressed by their efforts over 12 months to present their calves in such good condition and weight-for-age," he said.
"We're pleased they've been rewarded for it with strong prices."
Mr Manser said while there was strong local buying demand, they were swamped by insatiable interstate demand.
"We had two major feedlotters buying the heavier cattle to go straight onto feed," he said.
"Then there was a big run of black and coloured calves that were going out to grass in regions right up to NSW - NSW was a big operator all day."
Mr Manser said there was a slight premium for EU-eligible cattle.
The sale's top price of $2720 was paid for yearling steers from Eldra Pastoral, Naracoorte, and Wimberina Partnership, Penola.
