Moorundie Park stud sires sell to $11k

The top price, lot one, had plenty of stud interest, with bids reaching $11,000, with the winner John and Tania Richardson, Dalveen stud, Woodchester.

The 130 kilogram son of White River 881 - which was the 2018 Eyre Peninsula hogget of the year - had a 19.1 micron fleece with 3.5 standard deviation, 18.3 coefficient of variation and 99.4 per cent comfort factor as well as an eye muscle depth of 44.2 millimetres and fat depth of 10mm.

Mr Richardson said the ram impressed with its wool quality, size and outlook, and had the potential to become on of their top sires.

He said the ram would also provide a different outcross for their breeding.

The sale high did not finish there with lot 2 also selling to a stud buyer for $10,000.

The 130kg ram with 45.1EMD, 7.5mm fat, 18.2M, 2.9SD, 15.9CV and 99.7CF was bought by interstate stud Walwa Merinos, Gurrundah, NSW, with phone bidding by Peter Hayman, Australian Wool Network.

Moorundie Park principal Tom Davidson said the first-time buyer was attracted to the square, deep bod and long-stapled, well-nourished wool.

Mr Davidson said the sale had been a success, with good support from their loyal and new clients.

"I was happy with the lineup, and the value towards the end of the catalogue meant everyone left happy," he said.

Mr Davidson said it was great to see people looking long-term with their livestock buying.

"The decisions made today impact where we'll be in two years time," he said.

Active throughout the catalogue was TP Tree, Talia, via Port Kenny, with 17 rams to $2600, averaging $1694.

RJ Michael Props, Carriewerloo Station, Port Augusta, took home 15 rams to $2800, averaging $1773.

Repeat buyer Peter Evans Investments, through Elders Eudunda, also bought 15 rams to $1200, averaging $1053.

DH Turnbull & Co, Cleve, picked up 10 rams to $3600, averaging $2900.

Annerley Props, Geranium, also bought 10 to $3200, for an average $2230.

AR&HJ&BR Wait, Jabuk, took home eight rams, bidding to $2400, averaging $1725.

PT&AV Heath & Sons, Kyancutta, bid to $3400 on seven rams for an average $2857.

Binnumbrook, Loxton, bought six rams to $2800, averaging $2633; Ellery Props, Orroroo, bought six to $2200, averaging $1867; and McCarthy & Partners, Jamestown, bought six to $2400, averaging $2033.

Mulbra Park, Port VIncent, bought five rams to $3400, averaging $2840; JC&GH Heaslip, Appila, bought five to $2800, averaging $2120 and C&T Boxer, Kingscote, took home five rams to $2200, averaging $1640.

Elders stud stock manager Tony Wetherall, who shared the auctioneering duties with livestock sales manager Damien Webb, said it was a "terrific" result.

"It was a good lineup of with both stud and commercial sheep very even in type, with a depth of quality right through," he said.

"Moorundie Park is renowned for the size and carcase traits and productive wool, which is evident with commercial and stud buyers from every corner of the state."
