HEAVIER cattle were sought after at the annual Mount Pleasant weaner cattle sale on Thursday, according to Landmark Fawcett Mount Pleasant principal Colin Fawcett.
"Any cattle that were up for feedlot entry weight, up around 340 kilograms and above were certainly met with good met with good demand," he said.
"I thought the market was very good, we had about 60 registered buyers, there was a large crowd in attendance and in general the quality of the cattle was very good."
Mr Fawcett said prices were "pretty solid", and quoted steers as generally ranging between $2.80 a kilogram to $3.20/kg.
Topping the steer section was Liberty Pastoral, Eden Valley, selling a line of 12 Angus steers weighing 451kg for $1360, or $3.02/kg.

RA Wenske, Mount Torrens, sold five 504kg Murray Grey steers at $1340, or $2.66/kg, and another two weighing 461kg that made $1210, or $2.62/kg. The same vendor also made the second top price in the heifer section, with a Murray Grey heifer which was knocked down at $1130.
DC Holt, Eden Valley, sold seven 435kg Angus steers at $1320, or $3.03/kg. He also sold the top price cow with a calf at-foot - a Poll Hereford that made $1720 - and a pregnancy-tested-in-calf Poll Hereford cow for $1380.
Two 427kg Angus steers from Len Owen, Netherby, made $1300, or $3.04/kg, while two 398kg Angus heifers by the same vendor made $1070, or $2.68/kg.
A Murray Grey steer from VK&MA Mueller, Birdwood, was knocked down at $1260.
B&V Duldig, Mount Pleasant, sold three 450kg Murray Grey heifers for the top heifer price per head of $1140, or $2.53/kg, while another three Murray Greys from AJ&JI Bowd, Athelstone, made $1080.
J Colquhoun, Birdwood, sold three 419kg Murray Grey heifers at $1040, or $2.48/kg, and a Murray Grey cow knocked down at $1400.
A quality line of 16 Black Simmental-Santa Gertrudis-cross heifers by Terlinga Farm, Tungkillo, weighing 378kg, also made $1040, or $2.75/kg.
PW Heinrich, Maitland, made $1360 for 6 Murray Grey PTIC cows.
