A whopping 93 Yellowfin Whiting, seven Mullet, four undersized Blue Crabs and three undersized Salmon was the haul of two fishermen fined for illegally netting, taking undersized fish and exceeding daily bag limits on the Eyre Peninsula recently.
The recreational fishers were fined more than $3000 after being apprehended by Fisheries officers at a tidal creek south of Whyalla.
The Yellowfin Whiting catch was more than double the permitted daily limit of 40 for two people.
Officers seized all the fish, a net, two eskies, a pair of waders and a storage tub.
PIRSA Fisheries and Aquaculture director of operations Benn Gramola said mesh nets must not be used in South Australian marine coastal waters.
"This is not a new rule and any recreational fishers who do use fish nets in coastal waters are operating well outside of community expectations," he said.
"These types of activities are disappointing to see and have significant impacts on the sustainability of our precious state fisheries.
"It is important that if members of the public know of or observe these types of illegal activities to contact FISHWATCH."
