It was perfect autumn weather for the 114th Mundulla Show which again had a strong focus on the livestock and grains competitions.
The sole entry from Yerwal Estate Simmental stud, Lucindale, a 22 month old bull which will be shown at Beef 2024 in Rockhampton, Qld was awarded grand champion bull.
Judge Nicole Muller, Mount Gambier, described Tornado as a "red meat machine".
"He has power and punch as well as softness through the head and through the body and he walks well for his sheer volume," she said.
Another Simmental, Jillangolo Miss Authority, exhibited by the Llewellyn family, Willalooka, took out the champion female.
One of the highlights was the youth involvement in the five Young Judges competitions, including nearly 30 entrants in the beef cattle section.
The Fiebig family, Hilton Heath Merino stud, Keith, took out both grand champion ram and ewe.
The show was opened by Tatiara Citizen of the Year Geoff Williams who spoke about the importance of volunteering and the show to the well being of the community.
A special presentation was made to show stalwart Francis Andrews who was at his 60th Mundulla Show.
He recalled bringing a few Merino ewes into the show in the family's old Austin ute as a 15 year old that first year. Since then he has held many committee positions and been the convenor of the prime lamb section and the Young Judges.
"I have enjoyed every minute of it and I think Brody (Lock) and Lachy (Johnson) and a few other young people will take this show forward in their direction," Mr Andrews said.
