Buyers come from across the eastern states to purchase Injemira bulls

The sale resulted in 85 bulls sold for average price of $11,929.41 while there was a total clearance of the 167 preg-tested-in-calf females which sold to a top price of $2175 and averaged $2017.96.

"Our breeding decisions are dictated by commercial reality," Mr Greening said.

"In 2024 Injemira will turn off from grass 2000 cattle in the form of grass fed steers and heifers along with PTIC heifers for an autumn calving."

The top price bull, Injemira Patriarch T340 by Bowen Patriarch was bought by sisters Grace and Emily Elsom, Emigrace Poll Herefords, Macarthur, Victoria.

That price equalled the amount paid by the sisters last year for another son of Bowen Patriarch.

"We like the Patriarch line," Grace Elsom said.

"We saw the bull on the video but when we saw him this morning he really stood out for us.

"He has good phenotype with very good figures."

The Hereford BREEDPLAN figures indicated -0.8 gestation length, +1.8 birthweight, +80 for 600 day weight and + 20 milk, while his eye muscle area was +7.1, +2.1 rump and +0.9 IMF.

His southern self replacing index was +$189 while his southern baldy maternal index was $221.

Emily Elsom said they were the third generation of their family to breed Herefords.

"Its our family tradition," she said.

"We started with 25 stud females we bought at the Bowmont dispersal in 2017 and are slowing building our numbers and quality."

Equal second top price at $40,000 was paid for Injemira Patriarch T344 by Ardno Livestock Trust, OB Flat, SA, and Injemira Heidelberg T343 by Willinga Pastoral Co, Wandoan, QLD.

That bull was included in the Willinga draft of 11 they purchased for $16,000 average, while for their second property near Yalbea, QLD, seven bulls were bought to a top of $16,000 and average price of $10,857.

Waterloo Ag, Mt Gambier, SA, paid $25,000 for Injemira Robert Redford T121 and $14,000 for Injemira Gallway T282.

Other volume buyers included Jarrahwood Pastoral Co, Yarra Junction, Victoria, who paid to $14,000 in their draft of four which averaged $11,000: Burrayang Pty Ltd, Markwood, Vic, who selected three bulls to a top of $8000 (2) to average $7334, and KJ Upton, Wando Vale, Vic, who took three bulls home to a top of $10,000 and average of $8667.

In the heifers, Lake View Regen Ag, Currawang, purchased 26 for the top price of $2175 per head along with a bull, Injemira Gallway T253 for $24,000.

Speaking after the sale, Marc Greening said it was a very humbling experience to have so many people admire what he was doing with his cattle.

"You start planning four years ago for the bulls here today," he said.

"We are focused on early maturing, softness of carcase and finish on grass as vital traits for the commercial producer."

The sale was settled by Elders Albury with Nutrien Albury and was interfaced with AuctionsPlus.

Brett Shea, Elders Albury auctioned the females while guest auctioneer Paul Dooley took the bids on the bulls.
