Bulls sold to a five figure top at Lakeside Simmentals on Monday, with the event marking one of the first auctions for the 2024 SA bull sale season.
On offer at the on-property sale at Robe were 20 Simmental bulls, with 12 selling to a top of $11,000 and an average of $6625.
Reaching the top price was Lakeside Titus, which was the first bull put through the ring on the day.
Sired by Woonallee Napoleon and out of a Lakeside cow, the May 2022-drop, homozygous polled bull weighed 824kg.
Purchased by Ian Marwood and Susan Brice, Titus will be put to work in the near future according to stock agent Nick Downward.
"They do two joinings a per year, so he'll be out with the girls in no time," he said.
"They're repeat buyers so they're quite happy with how the genetics are working for them.
"They'll likely breed their own bulls out of him as well, so we're looking forward to seeing his progeny on the ground."
The family also purchased Lakeside Tam for $5000.
Elders auctioneer Laryn Gogel said the bull was a standout from the day it was born.
"He was Lot 1 for a reason and that's because he's been a leader for forever," he said.
"He has a lot of style and softness which I think buyers were chasing today.
"People are realising they need soft, moderate frame Simmentals that have carcase and capacity to them over a huge frames and that's what we offered at Lakeside."
In addition to the 20 bulls offered, six pregnancy-tested-in-calf heifers and six weaner heifers were also on offer at the sale.
One PTIC heifer was sold for $5000 to Dandavjon Simmentals, Kingston, while a weaner heifer was sold to DR & SM Rothe, Marcollat.
The sale's volume buyer was DE & WLC Lawrie, Naracoorte, who bought three bulls to a top of $6000 and an average of $5666.
