More than 400 grain industry stakeholders, such as farmers, advisers, researchers and consultants, attended the GRDC Grains Research Update in Adelaide this week, where nearly 30 speakers covered a range of topics across the two days.
Keynote speaker Nick Carracher, Lachstock Consulting, Adelaide, kicked off the conference, giving attendees an insight into the current and likely impacts on international grain markets.
He was followed by Canadian agronomist Dr Sheri Stryhorst, who has more than 20 years' experience helping to increase the profitability of Canadian crop producers.
Dr Stryhorst farms with her husband near Neerlandia, Alberta, so has lived experience of the challenges faced by growers.
She went through the challenges of growers in Canada and shed light on innovative agronomic practices and research.
Vic graingrower and GRDC Southern Panel chair Andrew Russell said the update was "an opportunity to inform and learn from each other regarding how different management and decision-making worked or failed"..
"This information arms us with knowledge for future seasons, pending threats and emerging issues to deal with on the front foot," he said.
