SA youth had an interstate road trip to remember to the 2024 NH Foods Angus Youth Roundup held in Tamworth, NSW, coming away with a few of the major awards and many new friends.
Austin Hann from Nampara stud, Lucindale, was awarded the pee wee division champion parader, while his twin sisters Maddi and Emily were champion and reserve champion herdsperson in the sub intermediate section.
In the junior judging the placings were reversed with Emily the winner and Maddi third.
Their younger sister Charlotte was second in her handlers class and runner up in the junior herdsperson award.
Zanna Spence, Keith, was third in the intermediate herdsperson award, while Elle and Emma Davies from Paris Creek each received merit awards in their handlers classes.
Nat Hann said her children and the other SA entrants had a fantastic time meeting the more than 160 entrants from across Australia and were grateful to the NSW studs who supplied the SA entrants with ballot heifers.
"It is a 16 hour drive so it would be a big trek to take cattle, they all had different heifers from different places so they were very lucky," she said.
Ms Hann also had high praise for the organisers of the four day event who were all young people themselves.
"It is not a bad way to spend six days of the summer holidays and at the same time they keep learning about the industry," she said.
"It was all about Angus which is the breed we have but even more it was about meeting new people and catching up with friends."
The other SA connection at the Round Up was the generous donation by Trent Walker and Rob Swinton of a pick of two heifers from their Keringa stud, Culburra for the Angus Youth charity auction.
Both heifers were in calf to Millah Murrah Trigger which sold for $180,000 as a yearling. The lot knocked down at $12,500.
