Strathalbyn cattle market had a lift in returns at its second to last offering for the year, after smaller runs of Angus steers attracted plenty of attention from buyers.

Returns boosted by about 40 cents a kilogram across the entire yarding of about 1000 head of cattle and Clover Ridge Pastoral pushed the price higher per head too, for its 12, 380-kilogram February/March 2023-drops which made $1120 or $2.94 cents a kilogram.
DL&AJS Florance, KI, made $1120 or $2.59/kg for its seven, Murdeduke-blood 431kg, October/November 2022-drop Angus steers, while Porky Flat, KI, made $1090 or $2.57/kg, for its eight, 423kg, November/December 2022-drop Gum Hill-blds.
A pen of 24, 406kg, July/August 2022 drops from MA&PC Kelly helped to continue a strong cents a kilogram price and reached $1100 or $2.70/kg and the Elders run also had a second pen make $1100 or $2.46/kg for M Whites' nine, 447kg Angus February/March 2022-drop steers.
AP Manning & GM Shallow had 20, March/April 2023-drop, Newlyn Park-bld Angus heifers weighing 400kg make $1090 or $2.72/kg.
An exceptional pen of Angus cross heifers made $1080 or $2.04/kg, for JRW&MA Zerk's 11, 529kg March/April 2022-drop Sterita Park-blds.
Porky Flat, KI, had multiple runs of Gum Hill-blds ranging from 392-408kg. A run of 12, 408kg November/December 2022-drop South Devons made $840 or $2.05/kg, while a further 22 heifers at 364kg made $800 or $2.19/kg and 15, 392kg Angus heifers made $870 or $2.21/kg.
Clover Ridge made $830 or $2.50/kg for its 15, February/March 2023-drop 331kg Angus heifers, while J Drummond, had 16, Angus February/March 2023-drop 316kg heifers make $830 or $1.01/kg.
R Galpin's 11, 402kg Poll Hereford heifers made $820 or $2.03/kg and thereafter, returns for 2023-drop heifers ranged from $550-$750.
Cows with calves at foot were limited in supply but met with solid demand.
The $1200 top run was offered by S Pope, Kangarilla, after its six, F1 Angus cows and calves attracted solid bidding, while Propellor Pty made $1120 for 12, Angus calves.
The remaining pens made between $760-$950.
The next Strathalbyn market will be held on December 15, with sales in the New Year scheduled for January 5 and 19.
