Lamb returns took a small step back at Mount Pleasant market on Thursday last week, after the larger yarding was met with slightly reduced demand.

About 1569 sheep and lambs, and 138 cattle were yarded, with well-presented crossbred lambs reaching the market top of $120.
Multiple runs of lambs from local producers made $120, with Hearnden Farms, Keyneton, offering 50 lambs at this return, as did GA Skinner, Meadows, with its 10 and IJ Payne, Mypolonga, had six Dorper lambs at $120.
Annie Smith, Blewitt Springs, also made $120 for its three crossbred lambs and Dajan Enterprises, Woodside, had 35 at $118.
Returns for hoggets reached a top of $76 for three Dorpers from L&M Schwarz, Monarto South, but thereafter, returns fell away to $40, for three White Suffolks from C Buckby, Cambrai.
In the mutton section, a slight uptick was recorded, after Tiersman Co Ltd, Woodside, made $40 for five White Suffolks and Cromer 226, Birdwood, made the same return for two Dorpers.
The cattle yarding was also slightly up compared to the previous market and steers reached a top of $1323.
AG&BA Loffler, Mannum, had one 661-kilogram steer make the $1323 or $2/kg top price and the same vendor had another steer, 603kg, make $1207 or $2/kg.
Gumhill Pastoral Trust, Moculta, had two 701kg steers make $1177 or $1.68/kg.
In the heifer section, a 730kg female from Gumhill Pastoral Trust, Moculta, made $1227 or $1.68/kg and CA Henschke & Co, Craneford, had a 421kg female make $716 or $1.70, the same vendor also made $786 or $1.70/kg for another 462kg heifer.
In the cow section, KG&RE Dewell & Son, Mount Pleasant, made $1401 or $1.76/kg for a 796kg female.
The last Mount Pleasant market for 2023 will be held on December 14.
