IN just her second competition attempt, Alison West has been deemed the best Merino fleece young judge.
The 23-year-old from Truro said she had only competed at one other show [Mannum], and despite recently becoming a qualified wool classer, she said the show competition was much different to her experiences in shearing sheds.
"This experience is different to anything else I have done," she said.
"I really love working with wool, so I like that I keep learning about all the different aspects to it."
Alison now goes on to compete in the national competition at the Melbourne Show next year.
She won the state competition ahead of 38 other senior entrants, including runner-up Shayla Lepse, Reynella, and third placegetter Sophie Nuske, Sheringa, while Asha Rowe, Nuriootpa, won the junior section ahead of 41 other, including runner-up Hugo Neldner, Nuriootpa, and Lucy Morcom, Keith, in third.
It was the first time 12-year-old Asha had attended the Adelaide Show, so she was pretty happy with her debut judging experience.
"I was lucky to get good advice from helpers at school and close friend Cody [Schiller], who came third in the competition last year," she said.
"I am definitely considering a job in the sheep industry in the future."
Junior Paige Pinchbeck, Lucindale, was awarded the Nutrien encouragement prize for "showing a remarkable effort".
