The Jersey competition at the Royal Adelaide Show appears to be growing with entries, exhibitors and excitement after a jump of 5 exhibitors and 19 entries were shown at this years event.
Taking out the Senior Champion Jersey female sponsored by Elders this year Ashtaney Topsy Belle, Andrew and Angela Koch, Moculta - the same breeders who won the supreme interbreed at the Adelaide Royal Show last year.
The senior champion cow came from the cow 4 year old in milk class and Mr Koch said this was the first competition that cow had done in the senior section.
"We were all excited about her two years ago for the intermediate section, but then of course COVID came along and canceled the show," he said.
"She's just always been the complete package.
"She's always had that tremendous strength with refinement, tremendous capacity and an udder that just blows you away.
"She has tremendous venation and texture on her udder and she's just a standout in the herd."
He said they had quite a few taps on the shoulders to get the cow across for International Dairy Week in January but the real challenge would be getting it back in calf to present at the Royal Adelaide Show next year.
Judge Zoe Hayes, Girgarre, Vic, said the champion cow had dairying quality "all the way through".
"She's just such a beautiful dairy cow and the epitome of a milk machine," she said.
"She has that beautiful wedginess to her frame and it carries on to the udder."
Ms Hayes said the intermediate champion which was Lightning Ridge MB Casino Fernleaf 1 ET, Robsvue Holsteins & Jerseys, Moculta, was well balanced.
"She has the capacity right throughout in width and the mammary system follows that width and capacity," she said.
The intermediate was sashed first place in the three-year-old in milk cow class.
Mr Koch also had the reserve intermediate champion Ashtaney Megapower Marmie which came first in the 2.5 year old in milk class.
"That cow is owned by the three girls actually and she's a daughter of a cow they bought from interstate that goes back to an international cow family," he said.
The Juvenile champion was Zenith Park Jet Goldmine exhibited by Niki Davies, Murray Bridge and came from the heifer yearling class.
Ms Davies said it was an emotional win as the heifers grandmother was previously sashed junior champion by the late Greg Tiller, whose funeral was yesterday.
