An illegal fish netting operation is thought to be behind the discovery of mulloway dumped at Port Wakefield.
PIRSA Fisheries officers made the discovery of 250 kilograms of dead mulloway in mangroves this week and have urged the public to come forward with any information or assistance to apprehend fishers responsible for the illegal taking of mulloway.
Fisheries officers believe the fish are part of an illegal netting operation which risks the sustainability of mulloway in the area but the dead mulloway will not be wasted and instead used for research to better understand this prized fish species.
The officers were unable to locate the offenders, who did not return to the area.
Any illegal fishing activities need to be reporting report via the Recreational Fishing Smartphone App or by calling the 24-hour Fishwatch number, 1800 065 522. Callers can speak to a Fisheries Officer and remain anonymous.
