SA butchers have proven they've got the gift when it comes to pork products, picking up wins during the Sausage King, best butchers burger and smallgoods national finals, held in Adelaide at the weekend.
First place in the traditional Australian pork sausage category went to Barossa Fine Foods, while best leg ham on the bone went to Balhannah Butchery.
SA entrants also picked up places with Rollbusch Quality Meats, Waikerie, coming second for its continental sausage and third for its boneless leg ham.
Tendawrap Butchers, Hallett Cove, was second overall for its bacon rasher; Swallow Drive Meat Supply, Mount Gambier, was second in the gourmet/open class sausage category; and Coopers Butchers, Burra, came second in the Australian lamb/open class sausage.

The competition followed on from more than 30 regional and state competitions held throughout 2022, along with state finals, with hundreds of independent butchers competing for the chance to be crowned national champions.
Australian Meat Industry Council retail general manager Stuart Fuller said the weekend was a fantastic celebration of the independent local butcher.
"The butchers really know their trade and craft, and having strong community connections to their customers and a desire to make quality tasting products highlights their passion and commitment to their businesses," he said.
