A "MONSTER" Merino ram that was "absolutely spot on" has topped the sale at the Hilton Heath Poll Merino and Merino on-property sale at Sanderston on Wednesday.
Conducted by Helmsmann auction, the main sale offered 40 rams, with 39 sold to a $4000 top and a $1580 average.
The top price was paid by regular clients D&M&C Schultz, Cambrai, for a 127 kilogram Merino ram with 20 micron fleece, 3.5 standard deviation, 14.6 coefficient of variation and 99.7 per cent comfort factor in Lot 1.
David Schultz said the ram was big, lengthy and "really filled the pen up".
"It's got pretty good wool on him - he will be a reasonably big woolcutter," he said.
Hilton Heath principal Roger Fiebig said the "monster" Merino was a standout and an "absolutely spot on" sheep.
The Schultz brothers also picked up the equal top price Poll Merino ram in Lot 5, at $3200, for a ram with similar figures to their top price Merino.
The 127kg ram had 19.3M, 2.8SD, 13.7CV and 99.9CF.
Mr Schultz said they were a similar type and were "good weighted rams" for their microns.
Overall, D&M&C Schultz took home five Merino and three Poll Merino rams for an average $2063.
Also paying $3200 for a Poll Merino ram was GU Pfitzner, Karoonda, for Lot 4, a 117kg ram with 20M, 3.2SD, 15.3CV and 99.8CF.
Overall, the sale team had an average weight of 114kg.

The sale's volume buyer was Ian Edson, Ivanhoe, NSW, with 30 Poll Merino rams from both the main and mini auction.
Mr Fiebig said he was pleased with the sale result and the line-up of paddock-reared sheep presented.
The sale was conducted by Nutrien Fawcett with Leo Redden totting up the bids.
