FRUIT fly outbreaks in the Riverland continue to cause concern, with part of the Loxton township now in a fruit fly 'red' outbreak area.
It follows the detection of Queensland fruit fly larvae in home grown apples and pears.
The Loxton North B and Loxton North C red outbreak and yellow suspension area boundaries have been extended.
Staff from PIRSA plan to visit Loxton and Loxton North properties in the newly-affected areas to apply organic bait and check fruit.
People living in the red outbreak area are advised to: keep fruit on their property and not share, sell or give away; pick ripe fruit and vegetables; collect fallen fruit and seal all fruit waste in a plastic bag before calling the Fruit Fly Hotline for collection; do not compost or bury fallen fruit; check fruit for blemishes and maggots; and call the Fruit Fly Hotline on 1300 666 010 if fruit fly is suspected.
Commercial fruit movement restrictions are also in place, with growers asked to access the fruit fly website for further information.
The designated outbreak areas will be in place until December 2022, providing there are no further detections.
