Scriven retains primary industries after Labor takes govt

South East-based MLC Clare Scriven has retained the Primary Industries and Regional Development portfolio that she held for the past year in opposition, as well as Forest Industries.

Independent Geoff Brock has also returned to the Labor Cabinet, after previously holding a role with the Weatherill government.

He takes on Regional Roads, Local Government and Veterans Affairs.

Mr Brock is now representing the seat of Frome after Frome and Stuart were both redistributed prior to the election with Mr Brock defeating outgoing Deputy Premier Dan van Holst Pellekaan in his new electorate, while the Liberal's Penny Pratt won Frome.

Susan Close will be Deputy Premier, as well as heading the portfolios of Industry, Innovation and Science; Defence and Space Industries; and Climate, Environment and Water.

Stephen Mullighan is Treasurer, while Nat Cook takes on Human Services and Joe Szakacs heads Police, Emergency Services and Correctional Services.

Tom Koutsantonis has the portfolios of Infrastructure and Transport; Energy and Mining; as well as being the Leader of Government Business in the lower house.

Tourism goes to Zoe Bettison, as does Multicultural Affairs.

Chris Picton is Health and Wellbeing Minister, while Blair Boyer is Education, Training and Skills Minister.

Nick Champion leads Trade and Investment as well as Housing and Urban Development.

Andrea Michaels has Business Affairs, Arts and Small and Family Business.

Emily Bourke will be Assistant Minister to the Premier and Rhiannon Pearce is Assistant Minister to the Deputy Premier.

This follows the Labor government winning in a landslide against the Liberal party.

In a landmark election, the outgoing government was the first since 1982 to not be elected for at least two consecutive terms, and the first overturned government since the start of the pandemic.

Outgoing Premier Steven Marshall conceded before announcing his resignation from leader of the party soon after, with Labor's Peter Malinauskas sworn in as the state's 47^th Premier.

So far Labor has secured 26 seats, while Liberals were elected in 13, with Independents in four and a further three still in doubt, including Finniss.

Independent Lou Nicholson and former Primary Industries Minister David Basham were in a tight race for Finniss while Liberal incumbent Adrian Pederick's fifth term in Hammond was finally secured this morning.

Former Liberal MPs turned Independents Dan Cregan and Fraser Ellis won the seats of Kavel and Narrunga, while Labor took home Giles, Light and Mawson, with incumbent MPs Eddie Hughes, Tony Piccolo and Leon Bignell re-elected.

In the South East, Liberal MP Nick McBride won the seat of MacKillop and has also put his hand up for the role of leader of the opposition, while Independent Mount Gambier MP Troy Bell was elected for his third term.

Schubert also underwent boundary changes, with Liberal Party young gun Ashton Hurn securing the seat.

Liberal MP Tim Whetstone was re-elected in Chaffey, while Liberal candidate Sam Telfer won Flinders and Josh Teague was returned to office in Heysen.

Both major parties secured four seats apiece in the Upper House along with Greens' Robert Simms but the final seat is still undecided.
