THE first sheep market of the year at Jamestown could not come soon enough for Mid North producers, with about 18,000 head yarded, giving buyers plenty of opportunities to secure stock.
The processing sector dominated the bidding as buyers competed to fill orders from the large offering of wethers.
Jamestown vendor CC Cooper & Co offered about 10,000 wethers, with the tops making $187 to Thomas Foods International.
The run of 310, June/July/August 2021-drop wethers were backgrounded on grain. The Gum Hill-bloods averaged 54 kilograms.
Consistent prices continued for the Cooper lambs with the same credentials, with a large run of 1735 wethers selling to Princess Royal for $178.
Bidding competition increased on the wether runs that followed, with a further 1331 head selling in a few lots to Midfield Meat International, 666 at $165 and 665 at $169 to Southern Australian Livestock.
CC Cooper & Co Wethers that averaged between 17.5kg to 33kg made between $53-$141.
Elders Jamestown Brett Fleetwood said it was a magnificent lineup for buyers.

Agents went through stock with a fine-tooth-comb, providing buyers with confidence, helping JS Redden, Jamestown, make $198 for Pindari Dohne-bld wethers that sold to TFI.
It was a smaller offering of 90, July/August 2021-drop wethers.
AP&GA Moore, Caltowie, made $175 for 142, Baderloo-blds that averaged 47kg.
The July/August 2021-drops were Januaru-shorn and were secured by active bidder, Princess Royal.
GR Coleman, Jamestown, offered a couple of runs but its tops made $176 for 332, July/August 2021-drop Baderloo/Karawatha Park-blds and competitive processor Midfield Meat made the final bid.
Ewe lambs certainly attracted attention, with GK,JL&JK Noll, Wilmington, making $200 for 153, April/May 2021-drop Springvale North-blds that averaged 50.3kg. They sold to Nutrien Ag Solutions Bute.
Schmidt Family Trust, Booleroo Centre, made $190 for 89 woolly Baderloo-blds that sold to Hill Livestock.
As expected at this time of the year, young and older ewes were a bit scarce but prices were solid.
Young ewes sold to $240 with Wurinyavale's SIL Nyowie-blds. The pen of 89 April/May 2020-drops sold to Spence, Dix & Co.
MGW&JL Wyndham, Copeville, made $220 for 92, 66.3kg Gum Hill/Benefield-blds that went the same way.
Young, 2018/2019-drop ewes made to $226, with the same vendor reaching that price with 66 Gum Hill/Benefield/Glen Lea-blds. The scanned-in-lamb ewes had been running with Merino rams and averaged 72kg. Spence, Dix & Co snapped the ewes up.
ADS & JLS Major, Jamestown, made $188 for 324 2017-drop Glenville/Morley-blds that averaged 80kg-82.6kg. Sold in two separate lots of 162, both pens sold to Elders Clare.
LR&GI Adams, Caltowie, made $200 for 119, July/August 2016-drop Baderloo-blds that had ran with Whit Suffolk rams and sold to Nutrien Ag Balaklava.
