LAKESIDE Simmental stud held its seventh annual on property auction at Robe on Wednesday with strong competition on selected bulls achieving the top price of $16,000 on three occasions.
Twenty seven of the 34 bulls sold to average $8407, which was an increase of $1342 from the 2021 sale.
The first of the three bulls to reach the $16,000 top price was Lot 2 Lakeside Riko R024 - an end of March 2020-drop son of Kerrah Defender D620, weighing 886 kilogram with an eye muscle area of 126 square centimetres, selling via Auctionsplus to Olinda Grazing, Baralaba, Qld.
Olinda Grazing also secured Lot 19, Lakeside Lad R016, at $16,000, a March 2020-drop son of Rissington New Standard AU158, weighing 927kg with an EMA of 108cm2.
The third bull sold at $16,000 was Lot 11 Lakeside Rogelio R158, a June 2020-drop drop son of homebred sire Lakeside Paulus P146, weighing 814kg, with an EMA of 114cm. R158 was bought by Loyoak Ag through PPHS, Naracoorte.
The sale's volume bull buyer was Loid and Zabby Appleton, Appleton Cattle Company, a family operated business at Charters Towers, Qld, which has bought Lakeside genetics for five years.
Appleton Cattle Company secured 11 bulls to a top of $15,000 to average $7909.
Fifteen bulls went to three different buyers in Qld on Auctionsplus.
The bulls were aged from 17-22 months and weighed up to 927kg, presenting in ideal working condition.
Repeat buyers Rosebank Pastoral, Casterton, Vic, LS Johnson & Sons, Naracoorte, and Artimore & Partners, Tintinara, bought two bulls each.
Elders auctioneer Laryn Gogel said it was a solid line up.
"The bulls sold well however the clearance does not reflect the offering of fleshy quiet natured bulls," he said.
"Auctionsplus was very strong and we thank them for the support.
"Online is unpredictable for how strong and where the competition will come from."
Twenty-three mated heifers were offered and sold to a top of $7000 to average $5098.
The top price heifer was Lot 44 Lakeside Rae R088, sired by Mt Ararat Marcus and pregnancy-tested in-calf to imported AI sire FSMB Pol Eddy 3E.
The successful buyer was James Cochrane, Coles Creek, Qld, via Auctionsplus.
Rae R068 is a maternal sister to Q088, which sold to BT Simmentals at the 2021 Lakeside sale.
Of the young weaned 2021-drop born heifers, 22 were offered with 21 selling to a top of $4000 twice to average $3274.
The two heifers to reach the $4000 top were Lot 64 Lakeside Sara S026, sired by BAR 5 FFF Luke 1215X and bought by Greg Huggins, Kingston SE, and Lot 74 Lakeside Starr S092, sired by Woonallee Napoleon was bought by T&K Boers, Holbrook, NSW.
Trent and Kelly Boers bought 14 females - 10 mated and four unmated.
"we are having an exceptional season and recently sold six month old steers for $2350," Mr Boers said.
The Boers run 2000 cows as well as trade cattle, with 200 pure Simmentals used to breed their own bulls.
Trent said it was a hobby for their kids Mia who is 11, Jimmy nine and Lucy six years old.
Mia knows the sire of every calf born and could not wait to get the catalogue in the mail and do all of her homework to select animals to buy.
Mia was doing the bidding as well.
Mia selects the traditional Simmentals with some white on them and they must have a good frame.
Matilda Rothe, who is 15 years old, is a very keen young cattle enthusiast who has her own Kingfisher Simmental stud at Padthaway.
Matilda selected Lot 61 Lakeside Sage S015, sired by BAR 5 FFF Luke 1215X, as a potential show heifer for the 2022 show season.
This is the third year the Rothe family have selected young heifers to be shown with younger brother Xavier selecting a show heifer at the 2021 Lakeside sale.
Auctionsplus was also strong throughout the heifers with 10 mated heifers and nine weaned heifers selling via Auctionsplus to Q;d, NSW, Vic, and Tas.
"The females sold exceptionally well reflecting the herd rebuild for both and stud numbers," Mr Gogel said.
Selling agent was elders with the duty agent Elders Kingston.
