LOCAL organisations can be the heart-blood of so many communities, with this no more evident than in regional Australia.
These groups perform so many seen and unseen roles within their towns that we can not afford to lose.
But while so much of what they do is driven by volunteer power, they also need funds. Both sides are an issue at this time.
So much of the traditional fundraising methods by these groups have not been possible in recent times.
If your usual money spinner is operating the sausage sizzle at an event that did not go ahead, that has an impact. As does the reduced foot traffic when selling raffle tickets - if that is even an option.
In the past 18 months, there have been some good news stories. I've heard of rotary groups taking their yearly raffle online and livestreaming the results, while other organisations have set up online stores to sell handmade or donated goods.
But this is not the right path for every group, and it is a crowded space for a large number of associations.
Like, with so much of what has happened in the past two years - or indeed life - there are no easy answers.
But we must be aware and ensure we're supporting the groups that support our communities.
