I KNOW I am not the only person celebrating the news that borders will be open within days.
It's great to think the potential is there for us to spend the holidays with interstate friends and family.
I imagine the relief is even greater for those who live near a border, who have had many day-to-day tasks, often taken for granted, suddenly made a lot more complicated.
Hopefully this opening can mark a new phase in the way states handle COVID-19, and the end to sudden border closures, which create so much uncertainty.
Of course, a big factor in helping these borders re-open is the respective vaccination rates of different states.
I won't be the first to observe that perhaps our border closure has made us a little complacent, especially when compared with NSW and Vic, which has borne the brunt of recent outbreaks.
Most regional areas of SA are sitting about the 70 per cent double vaccinated rate, while Adelaide has just passed 80pc.
All of NSW and Vic are well into 90pc.
We don't want to wait until we get another outbreak in SA to spur people into rolling up their sleeve.
