Yorke Peninsula Field Days to go ahead

SA HEALTH has confirmed 5000 members of the public a day will be able to attend the Yorke Peninsula Field Days.

YPFD chief executive officer Peter Anderson says the committee will meet tonight to collate information and consider financial reporting to decide whether the field days will proceed.

"I'll be flabbergasted if they decide not to proceed," he said.

The 5000 attendees does not include the exhibitors, only the general public once gates open.

Anyone trying to stage an event in such uncertain times faces many challenges, but organisers of the Yorke Peninsula Field Days are proceeding full steam ahead.

YPFD chief executive officer Peter Anderson and the committee met with Premier Steven Marshall on Tuesday evening to discuss the late September event's COVID-19 Management Plan in the hope of finalising several key details.

"It was all very positive, the Premier was very supportive and he's very keen for the event to go ahead, so that is our intention," he said.

"Naturally, there will be strict COVID-19 requirements in place, but they're manageable and we're just hopeful there is no COVID-19 outbreak in the state," Mr Anderson said.

"Our fingers are crossed for the next five weeks.

"Three-quarters or more of our sites are booked, and the exhibitors are clearly very keen for the event to proceed.

"Online ticket sales are being snapped up enthusiastically."

As restrictions can change rapidly, Mr Anderson says it is difficult to say what requirements will need to be met on the day.

"I am quietly confident that we certainly are going ahead," he said.

"(If permitted visitor numbers are) on the lower end, it will be disappointing, but I believe it will go ahead regardless.

"We will let our exhibitors know immediately if there is any change."
