WA teenagers Bree, Zoe and Rori Skinner spent the week before the SA Junior Heifer Expo anxiously watching the news each day to hear the latest COVID-19 updates.

The sisters from Woogenellup, near Mt Barker, felt it was "touch and go" only booking their flights to Adelaide the day before they flew over.

The WA trio were among 18 interstate competitors at last week's Expo -far fewer than most years with no Qld, NSW or NT entrants able to attend.

In April at the WA Youth Cattle Handlers Camp at Brunswick, 16 year old Rori was the champion beef handler with her prize a scholarship to attend the SA Expo.

Her younger sisters Bree and Zoe decided to join her.

"It is challenging and very different (to WA's camp) but this has been a really cool experience," Rori said.

She continued her success winning the intermediate marketing award and placing third in her handlers class.

Zoe said they were "pretty tired" from the busy program but were keen to come back again one day.

The girls share a passion for agriculture with their family running a commercial herd of 250 Angus breeders as well as a cropping operation.

"We break in our own heifers at home together go to our cattle camp and Zoe and I are on the show team at school (College of Agriculture Denmark) together which is pretty cool," Rori said.

"It is good to put in time with our heifers and see the results," Zoe added.
