In the month of July in 1997, the state was facing a year of drought and producers were doing their best to manage stock numbers and wait patiently for rain to save emerging crops.
The wool market had a dip in prices as well but community spirit was up with an Royal Flying Doctor Service dinner and Broken Hill debutante ball.
A Water Resource Forum in Mount Gambier was also held and the local saleyards turned 20 years old.
