THERE was plenty of stud and interstate interest at the Yerwal Estate Simmental bull sale at Lucindale on Wednesday, with three bulls sold into seed stock duties.
In all, 14 of the 24 bulls sold to a top of $12,000 and an average $6785.
The top price was paid by first-time buyers Glen Waldron and Kim Groner, Elite Cattle Company, Meandarra, Qld, for the 838 kilogram, two-year-old homozygous black Yerwal Estate State of War Q300.
The bull, which has measurements of 7 millimetre for rump fat, 6mm for rib fat, a 125 square centimetre eye muscle area, 41cm scrotal circumference and 4.2 per cent intramuscular fat, was sired by Canadian sire Hart State of War 05C, and is among the first drop of his calves in Australia, said Yerwal Estate principal Regan Burow.
Yerwal Estate also sold lot one - Yerwal Estate Quality Kid - to Tennysonvale Simmentals, Illabo, NSW, for $10,000.
Mr Burow said they had previously bought bulls from Tennysonvale themselves.
Quality Kid weighed in at 818kg with 6mm for rib and rump fat, 124cm2 EMA, 40cm scrotal and 3.5IMF.
He said the bull was sired by Glen Anthony Y-Arta, which was a "super consistent" sire that had produced quite a few stand out bulls.
For the second time, the Yerwal Estate sale also included an offering from Mt Mooney Simmentals, with two bulls offered and sold to a top of $11,000, averaging $8000.
Grantley Muller, Rellum Farms, Mount Gambier, paid the $11,000 price for Mt Mooney Q-Tip, with the bull to also be used in the Grant High School program.
The 17-month-old, 792kg bull had 40cm scrotal, 122EMA, 8mm rump and 7mm rib and 4.1IMF.
Mt Mooney principal Renee Mooney said the homozygous polled bull had always been "very stylish and soft".
"It got a lot of attention at the field days," she said.
The bull is also the half brother to the $10,000 lot one bull, sharing the same dam - Mt Mooney Lacey Princess.
Mr Burow said he was pleased with how the sale went, particularly with the strong stud interest, and other bulls sold into Qld and Vic.
Although he would have liked to see a higher clearance, several bulls have been sold since.
The sale was conducted by Nutrien Naracoorte, and interfaced on AuctionsPlus, with Richard Miller the auctioneer.
