HEALTHY competition from processors and restockers pushed new-season lamb prices to $212 at Mount Pleasant on Thursday last week.
Nutrien Ag Solutions Fawcett Livestock's Colin Fawcett said competition was also strong on store lambs, primarily between feedlotters and Midfield.
"Lambs were up and that's in line with what's been happening in other markets around the traps," he said.
"The quality of cattle was good, but a number didn't come in due to the weather conditions. We'll expect to see them next time."
Topping the lamb offering were nine crossbreds from RD&CJ Lindner, Palmer, which were knocked down for $212 - $24 more than the top price paid a fortnight prior. The same vendor received $172 for another 12 lambs.
NA&LJ Roesler, Eden Valley, sold two lambs at $186, while K Simounds, Mt Pleasant, received $185 for a pen of 25 lambs and $178 for another run of 27.
L&M Schwarz, Monarto South, received $184 for six lambs, seven from Jon Alton, Kersbrook, made $180 and a run of 26 from VK&MA Mueller, Birdwood, attracted $175.
Making $172 for ten lambs was A Cushion, Mt Pleasant.
In a small ewe offering, WM Evans, Keyneton, made the top price of $184 for a pen of 13, as well as the second-highest of $150 for eight ewes.
There was good competition in the cattle ring, with a Red Angus cow and calf unit from M&GLR Kochan, Lobethal, selling at $1980, while three Murray Grey cows from NH&DM Kies, Lyndoch, attracted $1900.
Heifers made to $1800 twice, with an Angus from P Woite, West Croydon, and Angus from Len Owen, Netherby, both reaching the landmark.
Steers consistently reached $1800 and above with two Red Angus steers from Neina Hill, Murray Bridge, both making $1860. Two more Red Angus steers from the same vendor were sold for $1800.
An Angus steer from TDM Freerange Pork, Mt Pleasant, attracted $1840, with a Murray Grey from SJ&TJ Walding, Mypolonga, and an Angus from P Woite, West Croydon, both making $1800.
There were several bulls on offer, with a Limousin from SB&R Vivian, Mannum, topping the offering at $1850.
The next Mount Pleasant market will be held on October 22.
