A SELECTION of "thumping" rams enticed multiple new at buyers at Borung Poll Merino stud's 44th sale at Waikerie last week and helped the stud knock down two rams at $3000.
Borung sold 49 out of 60 rams offered to achieve a $1200 average and stud principal Brenton Kroene said it was a "confidence boost" to attract new clients and also retain long-term buyers' interest in the stud's genetics.
"We are really wrapped with how the lineup of rams presented and the support from all of our buyers provides not just a confidence boost but also greater confidence that we are breeding in the correct direction," he said.
"The two top price thumper rams had notable sires with top fleece quality and it definitely helped drum up support from local buyers."
The first $3000 ram was knocked down to Kym and Michelle Thiele, Pompoota, through Platinum Ag Livestock's Geoff Clark.
Mrs Thiele runs 2000 Merino ewes and said it had a tremendous depth of body and staple length.
It was sired by a Lucernebrae Gunallo syndicate and had fleece measurements of 20.2 micron, standard deviation of 2.7, coefficient of variation of 13.6 and a 99.6 per cent comfort factor.
The 110-kilogram ram also boasted a greasy fleece weight of 130pc.
The Thiele's also secured the $2700 second-highest price ram, also from a Lucernebrae Gunallo syndicate, that carried a 20.5M fleece and 100pc GFW with wool tests of a 13.6 CV, 2.8 SD and a 100pc CF.
DA&BD Nutt, Orroroo, bought the other $3000 top price ram sired by a Wallaloo Park, Gunallo syndicate - it weighed 123kg and had a 104pc GFW with fleece measurements of 20.8M, 13.4CV, 2.8SD and 100pc CF.
It was the value for money genetics and bodyweight of the ram that attracted repeat buyer of seven years, Tony Nutt.
The Nutts bought six rams in total, averaging $1783.
The sale volume buyer was Koonawarra Stattion, Via Broken Hill, that bought eight rams at $600 each.
LD&S Stasinowsky and Co, Moorook, bought five rams to $1300, averaging $940, while JS&JG Krause, Mannum, bought four to $1300, averaging $975 and
The sale was conducted by Quality Livestock and Elders Loxton with David Whittenbury as the auctioneer.
