An eye-appealing, export weight Limousin exhibited by Naracoorte High School has gone all the way in the virtual show ring to claim grand champion steer in Stock Journal's Steer Showdown.
Judge and Iranda Beef feedlot general manager Tom Green had high praise for many of the 51 entries in the online judging aired over three nights this week.
But he couldn't go past the March 2019 drop steer, Naracoorte Quitters Never Win for the major award.
The grand champion rose to the top for its softness of hair type, smoothness and overall balance, winning $500 cash sponsored by Thomas Foods International.
"He is an animal that really has some presence about him, when we talk presence they are animals that draw you in and you want to see more of them," Mr Green said.
"This steer's best side is when he walks, he really softens up on the move- that depth of flank and hind (quarter) makes him a really quality animal with adequate fat cover."

The 570kg steer was bred by the Galpin family, Warrawindi Limousin stud, Penola and won by Naracoorte High School last year as the major prize at Penola Show's 2019 junior judging competition.
Also announced on the final night of Stock Journal's Steer Showdown judging was the Limitless Show Supplies best presented steer award.
This was won by Gladstone High School with their Angus steer, Nigel.
Judge and sponsor Annie Boon said it was a difficult decision but it was the "overall coat quality, halter fit and handler presentation" that saw the Mid North school win a Limitless Show Supplies prize pack.
"These students have done a fantastic job of his presentation. He's clean, tidy, you can see the attention to detail in his clip, leather halter, halter fit and handler presentation- its important to reflect that you are proud of what you are showing by being clean and tidy yourself," she said.
"I appreciate that his presentation of his clean coat was a result of work put in before the show, training his hair to be workable, looking fresh and healthy."
The entries in Stock Journal's Steer Showdown will be processed at Teys Australia's Naracoorte abattoir tomorrow (Friday) along with about 60 other steers in the Royal Adelaide Show's beef carcase competition.
Presentations of the on-hook awards will be held at the Adelaide Showground on Sunday, September 13 at 11am.
