IT HAS been a chaotic time for supermarket shoppers as panic buying led to limits imposed on many key items.
At butchers, they have reported a run on mince, with numbers of customers well up on the usual levels.
Fruit and vegetables are also flying off the shelves with AusVeg SA state manager Jordan Brooke-Barnett likening it to the Christmas rush.
Out at Parilla, they have reported taking on extra staff and increasing their hours to try and keep up with jumps of up to 50 per cent for potatoes and 30-40pc for carrots and onions in demand.
"We are very well placed in SA - we produce more than $1 billion of horticultural produce locally," Mr Brooke-Barnett said.
"There will be certain commodities that may have a price rise, but that is only short-term, as supplies dwindle and growers look to recoup losses. But the margins aren't massive."
