WA buyers returned to purchase the top ram at the Elders SA Stud Merino Expo in Burra yesterday.
The Merino ram from the Collinsville stud, Hallett, fetched $10,500 via a helmsman auction, paid by very loyal clients AG&GM Carmody, Mittakeri stud, Kulin, WA - last year's top price ram buyer.
The September 2018-drop, son of Collinsville Masterbuilt, weighed 140 kilograms and had a 20.7 micron fleece, with 3.5 standard deviation and 99.1 per cent comfort factor.
Collinsville offered nine rams, with all selling to new and repeat clients from five states, averaging $3283.
Collinsville general manager Tim Dalla said it was good to sell all of the spring-drop rams offered in such a challenging year.
He said the top price 18-month-old Collinsville Masterbuilt son was just cutting its two teeth and weighed 140 kilograms.
"It was embryo-bred from one of our top ewes, was structurally correct with nourished elite wool on it," he said.
"The buyers will use it to produce large-framed replacement rams for their own use and ram sale."
In the multi-vendor sale afterwards, two rams from the Orrie Cowie stud, Warooka, sold locally, both at $3000, while one ram from Greenfields stud, Hallett, made $3500.
