WELL-prepared cows sold to strong demand at the annual beef breeders and weaners cattle sale at Mount Pleasant on Thursday.
Nutrien Ag Solutions Fawcett Livestock's Colin Fawcett said numbers were reasonable but it was difficult to source bigger lines.
"People in the area are down to core numbers, plus they realise that once the season breaks, it's only going to go one way," he said.
Mr Fawcett said there was a large field of registered buyers.
"It was pretty evident feedlotters were searching for anything with a bit of weight," he said.
A single Santa Gertrudis heifer from Terlinga Farm, Tungkillo, sold at $1500, while another 16, 339 kilogram black Simmental-Santa Gertrudis heifers from the same vendor sold at $1220.
DC&SP Holt, Eden Valley, offered three Poll Hereford heifers, which sold at $1380, while Mount Torrens Holdings sold a single Poll Hereford at the same price.
S Gordon & S Grieve, Mount Pleasant, sold three Murray Grey heifers at $1300.
Broad Family Trust, Angaston, had a run of cattle, with two Murray Grey heifers selling at $1280.
AC Schutz & SK Skull, Palmer, had two Murray Grey heifers, pregnancy-tested in-calf, which also sold at $1280.
PTIC cows were sought after, with three PTIC Angus from RD Fuller, Eden Valley, selling at $1940.
AJK Pastoral, Myponga, offered eight Poll Hereford cows, which sold at $1920, while another seven PTIC Poll Herefords made $1900.
BC Wegener, Palmer, also sold a PTIC Poll Hereford at $1920.
Kinnaird P/L, Birdwood, sold 10 second-calf Angus cows, PTIC to a black Simmental bull at $1840.
BC Wegener also offered three mixed breed cows with calves at-foot, which sold to $2200.
Broad Family Trust offered three Murray Greys with CAF, which sold at $1880, while E Iuliano, Birdwood, also sold three Murray Greys with CAF at $1820.
There was a good offering of steers with the tops making $1400, for three, 380kg Murray Greys from NH&DM Kies, Lyndoch.
RD Fuller sold two Angus steers at $1360, while Lumley Park, Gumeracha, sold a single crossbred steer at $1320.
C Sullivan, Highgate, sold seven Angus-Poll Herefords at $1300.
