LONG standing Richmond Mayor John Wharton will return to office for another four years as the only candidate to nominate for the position.
Cr Wharton will run unopposed at the March 28 local government elections, as will Cloncurry Mayor Greg Campbell, who has also secured another term in the top job.
Cr Wharton will mark his 30 year anniversary sitting with the Richmond Shire Council after he was first elected as a councillor in 1991.
The community stalwart was appointed mayor in 1997 and will now hold that position until 2024.
It will be Cr Campbell's second term as mayor after he was elected to the position in 2016.
Prior to being appointed mayor, Cr Campbell served as a councillor from 2004 to 2008 and deputy mayor between 2008 and 2012.
Cr Campbell, who alongside his family operate a beef cattle business, was appointed onto the board of the North Queensland Livestock Industry Recovery Agency in the wake of last year's devastating north west Queensland flood.
In other flood devastated communities, it will be a four horse race for the top job in McKinlay, after Belinda Murphy announced she would not recontest the mayoral job in 2020.
Current councillor Philip Curr has nominated to step up into the mayoral position, alongside new comers Lynette Clout, Nyssa Currin and Shannon Rae.
Nine others will be on the ballot vying for the four other councillor positions.
Flinders Shire Council Mayor Jane McNamara, who led her community through the flood devastation, will also be recontesting her position, vying against two others wanting to step up.
Former Flinders Mayor Greg Jones, who Cr McNamara ousted in 2016 by just 10 votes, has nominated, as has current serving councillor Graham Sealy.
It will be a similar story for Charters Towers Regional Council constituents, who will choose between current Mayor Liz Schmit who is recontesting her position for a second term, former mayor and local businessman Frank Beveridge and newcomer Anthony McDonald.
Fourteen residents have nominated for the six councillor roles in the council area, down from 30 in 2016.
Five current councillors have nominated to run again, with only Cr Mike Power opting not to recontest his position in 2020.
