FERRY travel to Kangaroo Island will be heavily discounted for the next six months, with operators slashing passenger ticket prices in a bid to rebuild visitor numbers following the devastating bushfires.
SeaLink has introduced $15 one-way passenger fares for tourists, while last week, fellow ferry company Kangaroo Island Connect announced it was offering $25 return tickets for those intending to spend at least one night on the island.
"The KI bushfires have been devastating for our community," SeaLink Travel Group chief executive officer Clint Feuerherdt said.
"SeaLink's discussions with tour operators and business owners across the island have indicated that the best thing we can do to support them right now is encourage the immediate return of tourism.
"These discounted fares are designed to provide immediate relief for the KI community by encouraging South Australians to visit and holiday on the island over the coming months.
Mr Feuerherdt acknowledged the impact of ongoing bushfires on the KI community and said the company continued to work with the authorities regarding travel information.
"The dedication and tireless efforts of emergency service personnel, volunteers and community groups have been outstanding," he said.
"We also extend our thanks to all SeaLink employees who have been working hard to meet the transport needs of the KI community."
SeaLink's deal applies to passenger tickets booked before February 29, for travel until June 30 this year. Vehicle fares remain unchanged, although car hire is available on KI.
Discounted KIC tickets are available until January 28 for travel between January 24 and June 30.
