CONTACT is continuing between PIRSA and those with livestock affected by Friday's bushfires, as the assessment of the impact continues.
Agricultural and Animal Services state controller Mehdi Doroudi said, as of this afternoon, all of the 537 properties affected by the Cudlee Creek fire, who have stock registered with PIRSA, have received initial contact by the agency.
"However there is some follow up work required from our officers and we are still verifying reports of livestock, horticulture, viticulture and other relevant agricultural losses," he said.
"We can now confirm that over 2700 stock has been lost as of today (Tuesday, 24 December) but as we finalise our assessments it is possible that this figure may change.
"PIRSA officers, along with those from our participating agencies can now continue to provide the relevant and urgent assistance landholders are seeking in recovering from the fire as quickly as possible.
"This includes immediate advice to livestock producers and animal owners on such issues such as the welfare and burn assessment of injured animals, disposal options and assisting with other services such as water contractors, access to local veterinary services if required or to Livestock SA if needing agistment or fodder supplies."
Confirmed livestock losses from the Cudlee Creek include 2635 sheep, two alpacas, 139 head of cattle, one horse and 15 poultry.
Mr Doroudi said PIRSA was still working with teams from RSPCA and SA Veterinary Emergency Management as part of the livestock assessment operations.
He said they were also working with the horticulture and viticulture industries on ways to assist them.
"We are also in the process of facilitating a technical support network for viticulture and horticulture," he said.
"While information is still coming in from affected vineyards, we are aware that 30 per cent of Adelaide Hills growers are located within the Cudlee Creek fireground with varying degrees of damage."
Mr Doroudi said there were about 21 registered Property Identification Codes affected on Kangaroo Island by the Duncan and Menzies fires.
"We believe that figure may change as our officers gain access to the areas affected by the Duncan and Menzies fires," he said.
"We remind livestock owners if they require urgent assessment of burnt livestock to contact our hotline - 1800 255 556."
Mr Doroudi said advice for caring for stock after a bushfire was also available at pir.sa.gov.au.
