The event, held at Avenue Range by the Limestone branch of the Grasslands Society of Southern Australia, looked at some of the research surrounding phalaris staggers and copper deficiency.
As well as hearing about what to look for in livestock affected by these conditions, and how to prevent and/or treat them, the crowd also got to look at the Avenue Range pasture trial site that is looking to address these issues.

This includes methods to improve copper levels in predominant pasture variety medic, as well as a trial that will assess the alkaloid content of different phalaris cultivars, with research suggesting high alkaloid levels are what cause phalaris toxicity.
