VANITA stud's loyal following and an influx of new buyers ensured nearly 30 more rams than the previous year sold at the Geue family's Border Leicester and Poll Dorset sale on Tuesday last week at Kingston.
Sixty of 70 Border Leicesters topped at $1600 averaging $1112 and 65 of 69 Poll Dorsets sold to $1900 for a $1224 average.
Chris Wright, CB&SJ Wright, Kongorong, bought the top price Border Leicester for the second year in a row.
His top pick was an August 2018-drop which weighed in at 97 kilograms and was sired by Glencorrie 142-16.
"They're not fed up, so what you see is what you get", he said.
Mr Wright was successful on another three Border Leicester rams, paying an average of $1450 for the four rams he bought to put over Merino ewes to breed first cross ewes.
Repeat client Haydenwood Partners, Kingston, was the volume Border Leicester buyer with 20 rams to $1400, averaging $1198.
Another local Kingston buyer, TR Truscott, snapped up 10 Border rams to $1400 for a $1060 average while SA&GE Smith, Penola, bought seven rams to $1400, averaging $1064.
In the Poll Dorsets, the $1900 top price eclipsed last year's by $100.
The Lot 7, a May 2018 drop ram weighing in at 117.5kg with an eye muscle depth of 41 millimetres and fat depth of 7mm was bought by long-time client Brian Ling, BT&E Ling, Mount Benson.
Mr Ling secured 10 rams for a $1710 average.
GC Parker, Kingston, was the volume Poll Dorset, paying between $700 and $1400 for 17 rams, to average $973.
Repeat clients, Boolapuckee Pastoral, Kingston, bought 13 Poll Dorsets for a $1192 average and AK& AH Parker, Kingston, bought 12 Poll Dorset sires, for a $1350 average.
The Geue family once again donated the proceeds of ram to the Royal Flying Doctor Service, after a young family member required the use of the service.
This Poll Dorset made $1500 to Kingsley Parker, Kingston.
Landmark auctioneer Richard Miller said the Geue family was more than happy with the sale result, particularly the continued support of their long-time clients and attracting some new ones for their "good, honest rams".
He said several buyers each selecting 10 rams or more was testament to how well Vanita's genetics perform.
"Buyers were able to buy sheep all the way through the catalogue, from the first few pens to the last few because the consistency was there," Mr Miller said.
"The growth and weight for age of the rams is as competitive as any around SA, and with no supplementary feeding, what you see is exactly what you get."
