FOR the eighth consecutive year, the Gale family at Galaxy Park, Monarto South, have taken out the maternal breeds section of the maternal lamb production class with their Prime SAMMs.
The competition assesses a ram and two ewes, using objective measurements beforehand, while points are allocated within the show ring for traits such as structure, market suitability, wool, skin and breed type, for a maximum of 100 points.
Galaxy Park scored 68.3, putting it ahead of Jackson Border Leicester stud, Moyston, Vic, on 50.37 and Morton Border Leicester stud, Lucindale, on 41.7.
Geoff Gale said he liked the class being a combination of performance and showing.
The ewes were by sire GP140063 and will be retained in the Galaxy Park flock, while the ram's sire GP150041 was a 2016 Adelaide show champion. It has been sold to a Vic client.
Peter and Julie Button, Ramsay Park, Minlaton, won the terminal breeds section with a White Suffolk group for the first time.
The Somerset 67-sired group scored 69.17 ahead of Ulandi Park Poll Dorsets, Marrabel, on 67.49 and Newbold Poll Dorsets, Gawler River, on 66.23.
The Buttons will retain the group for their stud.
