ALL South Australian sheep producers may be asked to help fund an upgrade of SA's Dog Fence through a temporary sheep transaction levy of up to 12 cents a head.
The state and federal governments are each contributing $10 million towards the repairs, with industry contributing the remaining $5m - although exactly how this will be done is still being worked out.
Pastoralists and those selling feral goats may also face temporary levies or increased charges.
Livestock SA president Joe Keynes said ongoing consultation would occur with all sheep and goat industry stakeholders before any decision was made.
"We need to consult and make sure everyone is comfortable with the methodology of how the money is raised," he said.
"Any levy or collection mechanism will only be in place until the $5m is raised. If it is raised in five years, it will stop. If it is raised in 4.5 years, it will stop then."
