POLL Hereford buyers were spoilt for choice at the Diamond bull sale at Mundulla this week.
Overall, 18 bulls sold from 43 offered, for an average of $4722.
The top price bull made $8000 and it was bought by Landmark agent Simon Aldridge, who was operating for AuctionsPlus.
It went to Bill Lawson, McDonald Lawson, Mudgee, NSW.
Bendulla Spark N025 - a 22 month old, high growth bull - was sired by Ravensdale Spark K464 and out of Bendulla Almond K008.
The volume buyers of Bendulla bulls were regular bidders, the Michael family, Partacoona, Hawker, taking seven all at $4000.
Guest vendors Rod and Brad Davies, Wrattenbullie stud, Wrattonbully, sold four of nine bulls offered, averaging $5000.
Wrattenbullie's top price lot was Nathan - a 22 month old bull that was sired by Wrattenbullie Jolly and out of Wrattenbullie Undine L7.
It was bought by Pinkerton Palm Hamlyn & Steen director Shaun Minge, Penola, on behalf of Brett Skeer, BS&SL Skeer, Penola.
Mr Skeer is a regular buyer at the Diamond sale and said Wrattenbullie bulls suit his enterprise, with a focus on the bullock job.
Brett and Amanda Shepherd, Roeston Park stud, Kybybolite, were the third vendor, offering four bulls.
Bendulla also offered 96 pregnancy-tested in-calf European Union-accredited heifers.
The heifers had been artificially inseminated to Wirruna Kalimna K326.
Out 96 offered, 50 sold to $1560.
Buying the top price lot of 10 heifers, weighing 580 kilograms, was Alan Nankivell, Bordertown.
Sunset Hill, Echuca, Vic, bought the second-highest price heifers - a line of 17 weighing 565kg at $1540.
Bendulla's Andrew Bennett said it was a disappointing result.
"The quality was there, but the seasonal conditions contributed to the result," he said.
The sale was conducted by Elders and Landmark, with Ross Milne and Richard Miller auctioneering.
Mr Miller said there was an excellent line-up of bulls offered.
"It was a pretty unique opportunity to buy high quality cattle at very affordable rates," he said.
"There was a really even line-up of easy-fleshing, well-muscled bulls.
"Competition was strong on a few select lots but we were missing two to three volume orders."
