A MEETING of state and federal water ministers has resulted in the signing of a new agreement for the Murray-Darling Basin.
The Ministerial Council reached agreement on a new test, guaranteeing positive, or neutral, socio-economic outcomes for any further recovery of Murray Darling Basin environmental water.
Among its provisions was consideration of social impacts on any buybacks – something pushed for upstream.
For SA, the deal resulted in $70 million to assist the Coorong and funding for the desalinisation plant.
