RISING STAR: Apprentice jockey Justin Huxtable, Kangaroo Island, has found his feet at a Naracoorte horse racing stable and cattle and sheep farm. 

IDEAS SPARK: Adelaide children's author Allayne Webster says inspiration for her two latest books have come from a wide range of places. 

CHASING PASSION: Between working as a trainee vet nurse at Barossa Vets, Jess Seeliger spends most of her spare time preparing her family's cows for shows. 

MEET OSCAR: Joel Zimmermann, Sedan, with his latest masterpiece Oscar, which was created as a dedication to farmers in the Barossa Valley. 

LOOKING BACK: Australia Day award recipient David Coventry (right) and his wife Margaret look back at some books created by David on his overseas agricultural ventures. 

CO-AUTHORS: Lainie Anderson, Allen Jenkins and Sarah Pidgeon have captured the history of many of the grapegrowing families who sold their blocks to Wynns Coonawarra Estate in their new book Out of the Blocks. 

BORN SKIPPER: Simon Turvey on the boat he skippers called Born to Mentor, which competed in the Adelaide to Lincoln Yacht Race and Lincoln Week Regatta. 

SOIL STUDIES: SARDI soil biology and molecular diagnostics group leader Alan McKay with the Seed of Light awarded at a GRDC update. 

SETTLING IN: Geoff and Nola Ruchs in the garden at their new home at Hewett. They have retired there after years farming in the Mallee. 

COMMUNITY: Mallala school students Casey Pratt, Jake Humphrys, Jack May and Fergus Tiller with NRM's Chris Hall and teacher Mel Barnes.  

GOOD READ: Rawnsley Park Station owner Tony Smith, Hawker, relaxes with a copy of Pastoralism to Tourism - a book documenting the station's transition from grazing to tourism. The book was launched at the station on Friday. 

RECIPE FOR SUCCESS: Author Liz Harfull with a beer cake, one of the recipes featured in her new cookbook. It came from the Up the Track: Guide Dog Cookbook from Pat Morton of Victory Downs Station, on the SA-NT border. 

LAST BIDS: Vin Argent auctioneered his final pig market at Dublin just prior to Christmas, following more than 50 years in the industry. 

NEXT STEP: Sam Hay-Smith, Mount Gambier, augmented his university and Tafe study with a study tour of the UK, which helped cement his interest in agronomy. 

VEGIE DELIGHT: Scott Samwell, Eastbrook Vegetable Farms, Mount Barker, has been named Ausveg SA's grower of the year. 

FOND FAREWELL: After decades working as a stock agent, Phil Nagel retired this year.

BIG IMPACT: James Dodd was brought up on a farm at Bordertown and he has used the influence of farm life to build his career as a visual artist.  

LOOKING BACK: Present School of the Air itinerant teacher Michael Kerin and former teacher Ron Dare share stories from their time with the iconic institution. 

PORTRAIT STUDY: Sarah Kidman is one of eight Penola women to feature in the Terra Rossa CWA's exhibition They Came For Love. 

FACT-FINDER: Marian Harvey has been recognised by the Alexandrina Council for her book that explored the history of her community's school.  

HELPING HANDS: Heather Needs, with grandchildren Lana and Marnie and daughter-in-law Emma Needs. The family has made a tradition of volunteering for their local Lameroo community.

INDUSTRY INVOLVEMENT: Michael McBride, who was acknowledged in the Queen's Birthday Honours list, has been involved with a wide range of industry groups including the Pastoral Board and the Wool Council of Australia. 

AIM HIGH: Country to Canberra founder Hannah Wandel wants to ensure rural communities remain strong. She was in SA on a nationwide roadshow to inspire young women to reach their potential. 

GOOD CAUSE: Lyndon Heinrich, Greenock, and Daryl Sherwood, Truro, hit the road in a Datsun 260z as part of the Oz Outback Odyssey Royal Flying Doctors fundraising event on July 14.   

LENGTHY TIES: Herbie Neville out the front of the Elders Alice Springs office, where he is branch manager. His career with Elders stretches back to 1974. 

STELLAR SERVICE: Nathalie Johnstone, Williamstown, is a 2018 recipient of a CAS Hawker Scholarship, allowing her to study law and policy in Canberra.  

HANDS-ON: Zoe Proude, Port Lincoln, tests water at a STEM camp at Mylor. Zoe wants to find ways to combine her interest in science and farming. 

COUNTRY CREATIONS: Talented artist Harriet Mort enjoys painting farm animals in her farmhouse studio near Bool Lagoon. 

QUALITY LEARNING: IIFP trainer Robert Mugford, Nuriootpa High School student Robert Saegenschnitter and Moculta farmer Ian Koch.  

SPECIAL EVENT: Centre for Food Integrity CEO Charlie Arnot and AgCommunicators managing director Deanna Lush were guest speakers at a Rural Media SA breakfast event.

STORIES SHARED: Cheryl Adnams, Adelaide, has shared her love of country SA and the people who live there in her novels. 

QUALITY QUACKER: Aron Quinton, McLaren Vale, with crested drake Diego, is looking forward to representing SA in the national poultry young judges competition. 

INAUGURAL WINNER: Wasleys graingrower and university student Cameron Lowe has  won the GenAg Future Fund scholarship for his unique vision for the fodder industry.  

THREE GENERATIONS: Lorna Bormann, Mannum, her daughter Cheryl Miegel, Murray Bridge, and granddaughter Emily Mueller, Murray Bridge, won a swag of awards at the Royal Adelaide Show.

POSITIVE IMPACT: Herd of Hope founder Megan McLoughlin, Tanunda, with her horse Biscuits, organised a charity campdraft at Marrabel. 

COMMEMORATION PLANNED: Hamley Bridge 150 organising committee members Glenys Edwards, Hugh Tily, Richard Gregory and Val Hammat in front of the institute. 

PHOTO POWER: Alice Mabin, Qld, has put her passion for agriculture and photography to good use with the creation of a unique and powerful book series that tells the story of the heart and roots of the crucial Australian industry.  

WINNING TEAM: Allendale North's Lucy Oldfield and her Quarter Horse Peptos Royale Comanchee, 'Roy' make a great team. Roy has helped the 16-year-old win multiple barrel racing events. 

FUNDRAISING EFFORT: Kalangadoo farmers Wendy and Gary Kilsby opened their Victorian period home, Lowan Homestead, on November 3 and 4 as a Royal Flying Doctor Service fundraiser. 

COMING UP: New Adelaide Thunderbirds recruit Kelly Altmann, who hails from a dairy farm at Toora, is ready for pre-season to begin at Priceline Stadium.

BEAUTIFUL LOCATION: Kangaroo Island residents Alan and Susie Noble are keen to see their island home's native vegetation restored. 

TRADITION REMAINS: Long-time Wolseley Ag Bureau member Ted Ridgway and his son Andrew - the current branch president - say the Bureau is a great way to learn and stay connected with the community. The Wolseley Ag Bureau marked 90 years in 2018.

HALL OF FAME: Members of the Carrieton Rodeo committee Glyn Shackleford, Terry Williams, Geoff Power, Janet Williams, Wayne Williams, Val Power, Trevor Rowe and Gaye Rowe at the Hall of Fame induction.  

TALES TOLD: Long Story Short's Mark Thompson, with his trusty notebook, demonstrates the app that could help share local stories with regional visitors. 

FACILITY UPDATE: Keith CFS brigade member Alan Morcom out the front of his local station, which has been given a new look with a mural. 

NICHE MARKET: John Kalleske, Greenock, in an oat crop that produces organic and biodynamic oats for Four Leaf Milling at Tarlee.  

TOP GONG: Troy Kalleske has operated the family's award-winning wine label Kalleske Wines since 2002, and only uses biodynamic grapes.

NEW RELEASE: Author Liz Harfull with her new biography, Finding Steve's Place, written about Robe local legend Steve Woolston. 

HIGH ACHIEVMENT: Landmark Riverton agent Glen Keast has taken his competitive spirit international, participating in triathlons in Hawaii.
