ANOTHER year, another record for Telang Pastoral Co, Wangolina, as first-cross ewe lambs climbed to $286 at its annual on-property sale on Friday last week.
Pinkerton Palm Hamlyn & Steen auctioneer Josh Manser moved swiftly through the lamb selection with local, interstate and internet bidders undeterred by the Kingston wind.
Overall, 3983 May/June-drop ewe lambs sold for an average of $224, while 3906 wether lambs averaged $146 – an improvement on 2017.
PPHS livestock consultant Trevor Doecke bid the top price of $286 for client Roger Dickenson, Naracoorte, for 100 Merino-Border Leicester-East Friesian ewe lambs weighing 47.7 kilograms.
Ivan and Pauline Hocking, Lucindale, secured the remaining 349 ewe lambs in the first pen at $280, then added 483 wethers at $138.
Fletcher International Exports, Dubbo, NSW, picked up the bulk of the 35.6kg to 51.6kg wether offering, which included the top pen of 1339 lambs at $157.
Telang’s Rob Starling was happy with the sale result and said they had experienced a good season with autumn rains carrying the green feed through.
“Its nice to get rewarded for having a little extra weight in the lambs this year,” he said.
