A 13-MONTH-old heifer that was difficult to fault was awarded the title of Junior Youth Show champion heifer.
Jersey Bellview Vanahlem Stellar 2, exhibited by SR&LP&BK Manuel, Joanna, and paraded by seven-year-old Chelsea Schutz, was selected from a competition across five breeds and more than 110 entries.
Judge Damen Phillips, Toowoomba, Qld, said there had been some tough decisions in judging the nine classes but his champion and reserve had stood out.
“Quite often when judging, you fall in love with animals during the day,” he said.
“These two animals I have come back to again and again.”
He awarded the tricolour ribbon to the Jersey entry, calling it an “easy winner”.
“It is a great example of the breed,” he said.
“It is the most balanced, with not a lot of (faults).”
Bellview’s Glenn Schutz said the heifer was something of a favourite in the family, with Chelsea and her brother Sam helping to prepare the team for show.
“It’s a great little heifer with good confirmation,” he said.
Chelsea said she enjoyed getting out there and leading.
Reserve champion junior show heifer went to Geelunga Santric Jessica, exhibited by Track Ayrshires, Mount Compass, and led by Kelsey Mathew.
Kelsey said the 18-month-old heifer was one of the best heifers they had, so she was hoping it would do well.
She said it was a great experience to be involved a junior show.
“I’ve been to a couple of camps and it’s been really fun,” she said.
The Jeff Kernich Memorial Trophy for best presented school went to Murray Bridge High School.
